Grigory Karasin discusses expanded bilateral cooperation with Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Azizi

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin talked over the phone with Chair of the Commission on National Security and Foreign Policy of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Azizi.

The officials discussed issues involved in expanding cooperation under the Agreement on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran. They stressed that the effort to implement this crucial document was beginning to yield positive results.

Grigory Karasin and Ebrahim Azizi noted that it was of key importance to continue promoting interparliamentary cooperation that helped to address many practical issues of bilateral interaction.

They focused separately on the topic of joint work with the Caspian agenda and on both countries’ preparations for attending a number of events with a bearing on issues of current importance for Russia and Iran, which are to be held by international organisations.

Russia indicated that it was important for Iran to ratify the intergovernmental agreement on the reciprocal recognition of the institutions of the authorised economic operator. Signed on 17 May 2023, the agreement is intended to energise bilateral trade through the North-South Transport Corridor. The sides also pointed to the key importance of building up collaboration in the area of higher education.
