Grigory Karasin: Aggression against Iran is directed at destroying international stability and international law

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs and Iran’s Ambassador to Russia discuss the situation in the Middle East and further outlook for international cooperation in the region.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation Kazem Jalali.

According to Grigory Karasin, Iran is undergoing a serious test. “Russian parliamentarians continue to follow closely the developments in the Middle East and are confident that the unprovoked US and Israeli aggression against Iran is directed at destroying international stability and international law. If this reckless undertaking is not cut short, the international community will face serious problems,” he said.

“Russian senators are concerned about strikes at nuclear infrastructure facilities; we resolutely condemn those egregious incidents,” he declared. He also stressed that Russia advocates for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a return to the political and diplomatic process based on international law.

According to Grigory Karasin, Russian-Iranian agreements continue to be implemented. “The same is true of the parliamentary component of interstate relations, which remain stable, strong and forward-looking,” he said.

The Seventh Caspian Summit is scheduled to be held in August 2026 in Tehran. Mr Karasin expressed hope that his Iranian colleagues will expedite the ratification of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

Kazem Jalali expressed gratitude to Russia for its support of Iran and noted that Russian senators are firm supporters of promoting friendly Russian-Iranian ties.

Grigory Karasin and Kazem Jalali discussed in detail the current situation in Iran and the Middle East, as well as further outlook for its development.
