Konstantin Kosachev: Russian-Mongolian relations remain highly dynamic

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and the Ambassador of Mongolia to Russia coordinated their positions on a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Russian Federation Dulamsürengiin Davaa.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Member of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the State Great Khural of Mongolia, Bair Zhamsuyev.

According to Konstantin Kosachev, Russian-Mongolian relations remain highly dynamic. “This concerns top-level contacts, those between ministries, agencies and parliaments.”

The Deputy Speaker believes that Russia and Mongolia, which share a common border, have significant untapped potential for direct cross-border cooperation.

Konstantin Kosachev reaffirmed the readiness of senators to facilitate deeper ties between Russian regions and Mongolian provinces.

The Deputy Speaker expressed hope that the upcoming opening of Russia’s Sputnik information centre in Mongolia would also stimulate this process. “We hope that an important step will be taken to expand Russia’s presence in Mongolia’s media landscape. At the same time, we will, of course, strictly comply with all requirements of Mongolian legislation in this sphere,” Konstantin Kosachev noted.

Dulamsürengiin Davaa noted the deeply rooted historical ties between the two countries. The Ambassador believes that the Treaty on Friendly Relations and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and Mongolia, which has been ratified by both countries’ parliaments, has enabled the intensification of bilateral ties across all spheres.

During their conversation, Konstantin Kosachev and Dulamsürengiin Davaa coordinated their positions on a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues, including the timeframe of Russian-Mongolian interparliamentary contacts and the work of friendship groups. They discussed the participation of Mongolian representatives in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum in early June. Particular attention was also given to economic and cultural ties between border regions.
