The meeting was organised by the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs.

The event, chaired by First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrey Denisov, was attended by Konstantin Kosachev, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and Co-Chair of the Commission for Cooperation Between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the State Great Khural of Mongolia, as well as Russian senators, including representatives of the border regions, State Duma deputies, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, researchers and experts.

The Deputy Speaker added that in February 2026, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with Nyam-Osoryn Uchral, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia. They mainly discussed interparliamentary cooperation in the interests of Russian-Mongolian relations. Cross-border and region-to-region cooperation was the priority discussion point. Seventy constituent entities of the Russian Federation maintain relations with Mongolian aimags. A substantial number of Russian regions, primarily the Republic of Buryatia, the Republic of Altai, the Republic of Tyva and the Irkutsk Region are interested in deepening economic and humanitarian cooperation and tourist exchanges.
