Konstantin Kosachev speaks at Valdai Discussion Club

We need to work out a system of universal global institutions, without the economic or political dominance of any one group of states, the Deputy Federation Council Speaker said.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev took part in the discussion, “Half a year in a new reality: How has the world changed since February 24?” organised by the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club.

The participants focused on changes in international politics as a result of the special military operation in Ukraine, considered the main factors that are shaping the emerging world order, and the possible role and place of Russia, China and the United States in it, as well as other issues on the current global agenda.

“The end of history the West declared following the Cold War never happened. History offers different paths for the development of civilisation. To make sure we move towards the most democratic, multipolar model, we need to make an effort to institutionalise multipolarity. This means putting together a system of truly universal global institutions without the economic or political dominance of any one group of states,” Konstantin Kosachev said in his remarks.

Also attending the event were Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council Andrey Kortunov, President of the Centre for the National Interest Dimitri Simes, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of the Shanghai Centre for Strategic and International Studies Nelson Wong, and others.

Established in 2004, the Valdai Discussion Club has grown to become an internationally recognised dialogue platform for the world's leading experts and Russian scientists, politicians and representatives of state bodies. Over the years, more than 1,000 representatives of the world research community from more than 74 countries have taken part in the Club’s sessions. It is traditional for the President of Russia and other representatives of the country's leadership to meet with the participants at the annual meetings of the Club.
