The Federation Council speaker had a meeting with the Chinese ambassador to Russia in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission in Russia.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with Chinese Ambassador to Russia Li Hui in connection with the completion of his diplomatic mission in Russia. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Speaker Ilyas Umakhanov.
The speaker expressed her condolences on the recent death of former Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Peng.
Valentina Matvienko noted that the last ten years were among the most fruitful in the history of Russian-Chinese relations.
“Russian and Chinese leaders have defined the climate of bilateral relations, which have been brought to the level of strategic cooperation and comprehensive partnership.
“The cooperation process does not only include the two countries’ official structures, but also civil society institutes and representatives of culture, art and sports. We have a broad platform to further develop our ties, and the Federation Council is playing an important role in this, promoting mutually beneficial contacts between Russian regions and Chinese provinces.
“Russian-Chinese relations can serve as an example of international relations built on trust, mutual understanding, respect and consideration of national interests,” Valentina Matvienko noted.
In addition, according to the speaker, Russian-Chinese partnership was an important factor in global politics with a significant influence in solving topical global problems.
In this context, the speaker noted that Russia expected a visit by the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and believed it was a high priority.
Li Hui expressed his gratitude to Valentina Matvienko for the commendation of Russian-Chinese interaction as well as cooperation between the Federation Council and the Chinese National People's Congress.
“Strong ties between parliaments are an important element of the strategic partnership,” the Chinese ambassador believes.
He assured the speaker that China was ready to further coordinate positions with Russia.
