The Speaker of the Federation Council met with the Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress


Interparliamentary ties between Russia and China are developing at a fast pace, said Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko at a meeting with Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress and President of All-China Women’s Federation Shen Yueyue.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum in St Petersburg.

The officials noted that the two countries maintain a strategic partnership and that bilateral contacts between the leaders of Russia and China were characterised by a positive political atmosphere.

“Russian-Chinese relations are equitable and trust-based and are constantly given new constructive substance,” Valentina Matvienko said.

The two officials discussed prospects for interparliamentary and interregional cooperation, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties and exchanged views on issues that are included on the women’s agenda for the Eurasian Women’s Forum.

Valentina Matvienko noted that the Chinese delegation at the forum was representative and took an active part in the forum’s work.

Shen Yueyue said that the subject of the forum was very important as it highlighted women’s role in ensuring security and sustainable development.

She underlined the great importance of the Second Eurasian Women’s Forum for the development of the women’s movement.

The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachyov, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy and Chair of the Russia-China Friendship Association Dmitry Mezentsev.
