Nikolai Fedorov attends opening of Alley of the Pioneers of Cosmonautics in Vitanje (Slovenia)

The senator said advanced high-tech projects are a crucial aspect of partnership between Russia and Slovenia.

First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Nikolai Fedorov attended the opening ceremony of the Alley of the Pioneers of Cosmonautics, which took place in Vitanje (Slovenia).

Attending the ceremony were President of the National Council of Slovenia Alojz Kovsca, Russia's Ambassador to Slovenia Doku Zavgayev, Cosmonaut and Hero of Russia Yuri Baturin, Mayor of Vitanje Mirko Polutnik, Slovenian government officials, members of parliament, diplomats and public figures, as well as a delegation from the Kaluga Region, the birthplace of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.

Space flight would have been impossible without bold, revolutionary, innovative ideas, according to Nikolai Fedorov.

“The courageous, wise and future-oriented great sons of Russia and Slovenia, Konstantin Tsiolkovksy and Herman Potocnik, turned the eternal dream of humanity – to fly to the stars – into a reality. They made an outstanding contribution to the treasure-house of world science,” Nikolai Fedorov said.

The First Deputy Speaker reminded the gathering that he is a senator from Chuvashia, the region where cosmonauts Andriyan Nikolayev, Musa Manarov and Nikolai Budarin were born.

The senator stressed that advanced high-tech projects are a crucial aspect of partnership between Russia and Slovenia. “Today, a range of cooperative projects are being successfully run by our countries; this includes pharmaceutics, energy engineering, the petrochemical industry, agriculture, telecommunications and transport.”

Nikolai Fedorov expressed confidence that the Alley's opening would be a cornerstone in the development of the Gagarin Centre of High Technology in Vitanje and would cement the bridge of Russian-Slovenian friendship.
