The talks focused on bilateral relations and prospects for parliamentary cooperation
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Ilyas Umakhanov had a meeting with Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Grand National Assembly (Parliament) of Turkey Volkan Bozkir.
Ilyas Umakhanov noted the high level of trust in bilateral relations, including the ties between the national parliaments.
He discussed a proposal on the establishment of an extended Russian-Turkish parliamentary commission. “This is an interesting idea. The matter needs to be studied and rationalised.”
According to Ilyas Umakhanov, it is necessary to have cooperation groups step up their work and to promote relations between the Russian and Turkish regions.
Volkan Bozkir said the relationship between Russia and Turkey was positive at the moment and called for the further strengthening as well as development of parliamentary cooperation. He suggested adding to the existing parliamentary diplomacy a trilateral format involving other countries apart from Russia and Turkey.
