Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko held talks with President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in.

“The South Korean President and I discussed the entire range of bilateral relations issues. We decided to boost the implementation of agreements reached during the meetings between the Russian and South Korean presidents,” Valentina Matvienko said following the meeting.

According to the Speaker, the Republic of Korea is interested in expanding investment cooperation with the Russian Federation. “We have already outlined the projects that the Korean party prioritises,” she said.

“In addition, the Korean side supports the Russian stance on the need to ease sanctions against North Korea in response to the steps made by the North Koreans towards denuclearisation,” Valentina Matvienko added.

She also said that the rapprochement between DPRK and the Republic of Korea was also discussed. “We are glad that the inter-Korean dialogue has begun,” she emphasised.

The Federation Council delegation to the Republic of Korea included Deputy Speaker Iliyas Umakhanov, Chair of the Committee on Defence and Security Viktor Bondarev, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Lyudmila Bokova, member of the Committee on Social Policy Yury Arkharov and member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Farit Mukhametshin.
