Vladimir Chizhov: Russia and Pakistan have considerable potential for further strengthening cooperation

The Senator met with Head of the Pakistani Senate’s Parliamentary Group for Friendship with Russia, Aimal Wali Khan.


Head of the Federation Council Cooperation Group with the Senate of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security Vladimir Chizhov held a meeting with Head of the Pakistani Senate’s Parliamentary Group for Friendship with Russia, Aimal Wali Khan.

The Senator noted that Pakistan is one of Russia’s important partners in the Asian region. “Our bilateral relations continue to develop, and our cooperation is expanding into new areas. The intergovernmental commission is working successfully, and there is considerable potential for further strengthening cooperation,“ he said.

Vladimir Chizhov also emphasised that Russia and Pakistan cooperate within a number of international organisations, including the UN and the SCO.

“We look forward to further developing interparliamentary contacts and, more broadly, relations between our countries,” the Senator said.

For his part, Aimal Wali Khan stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral relations across all areas, including trade, business, information technology, science and culture.

”We will continue to promote closer cooperation between our countries,“ he said.

The participants also discussed global and regional issues, as well as developments around Iran, including Pakistan’s mediation efforts.

The meeting was attended by Federation Council Senator and member of the Cooperation Group Alexander Varfolomeyev, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Pakistani parliamentarians.
