The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS.
Federation Council Speaker and Chair of the IPA CIS Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Chairperson of the Assembly of Turkmenistan Dünýägözel Gulmanowa. Their conversation took place on the sidelines of the spring session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the CIS in St Petersburg.
The Speaker noted that it was the first time that Dünýägözel Gulmanowa attends the IPA CIS. “Turkmenistan currently holds the chairmanship of the Commonwealth of Independent States. We appreciate Turkmenistan’s support for the Assembly’s work. This is an important platform for interaction.”
According to Valentina Matvienko, Russian-Turkmen cooperation continues to develop steadily within the framework of strategic partnership, with the leaders of the two countries setting the tone and direction of bilateral relations. “There is an ongoing political dialogue at the highest level, as well as between our governments and parliaments. We remain in regular personal contact,” the Federation Council Speaker emphasised.
In the course of conversation Valentina Matvienko conveyed her sincere best wishes to National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. “He is always deeply engaged in the parliamentary agenda and supports interparliamentary cooperation as an important component of interstate relations. We also highly value Arkadag’s traditional participation in the Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum International Economic Forum.
Dünýägözel Gulmanowa noted that bilateral parliamentary relations continue to develop consistently. She underscored the important role Valentina Matvienko plays in strengthening cooperation between legislators and in advancing the women’s agenda.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed preparations for a number of international events, including those being organised through the IPA CIS.
Valentina Matvienko thanked Turkmenistan for supporting the Memory Train cultural and educational project, launched at the initiative of the speakers of the Federation Council and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and carried out under the auspices of the Union State.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitry Kobitsky.
