The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Istanbul.
Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko had a meeting with Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man.
The Speaker noted that Vietnam is Russia’s close and reliable partner in Southeast Asia. “Our relations have withstood the test of time, elevating to a new level of overarching strategic partnership. They enjoy a steady development dynamic.”
Valentina Matvienko congratulated her Vietnamese counterpart on his re-election to the post of the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam. “In Russia, you are known as a prominent statesperson and political figure, experienced parliamentarian and consistent supporter of strengthening the mutually beneficial partnership with Russia.”
The meeting participants praised the consistent progress in the bilateral interparliamentary ties, and the effective coordination of efforts on international parliamentary platforms.
Tran Thanh Man conveyed greetings from Vietnamese leadership to the Federation Council Speaker and noted the importance of strengthening Russian-Vietnamese partnership.
The counterparts discussed further development of economic, energy, cultural and humanitarian collaboration as well as expansion of interregional ties.
