The meeting between the Speaker of the Federation Council and the Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus took place on the sidelines of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko chaired a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union State. Speaker of the Federation Council and Chair of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, Valentina Matvienko took part in the meeting.
The agenda included a discussion of joint work under the comprehensive document, Guidelines for Implementing Provisions of the Treaty on Establishing the Union State in 2024–2026.
On the sidelines of the event, the Speaker of the Federation Council met with Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova. They discussed parliamentary support for the implementation of the Union State agenda.
During the conversation, they also addressed preparations for the 13th Forum of Russian and Belarusian Regions.
Valentina Matvienko and Natalia Kochanova also discussed prospects for holding the cultural and educational project Train of Memory in 2026. The project was launched in 2022 at the initiative of speakers of upper houses of the Russian and Belarusian parliaments.
