The senator spoke at a conference marking the 20th anniversary of the IPA CIS International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarism, and Suffrage Protection.
Daria Lantratova, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, addressed the international research and practice conference Building Trust in the Institution of Elections and Referendums: The Role of International Observation. The event, currently underway in St Petersburg, was organised by the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States in partnership with the CIS Advisory Council of Heads of Electoral Bodies of CIS Member States.
The senator participated in a discussion session titled International Observation of Elections and Referendums and the Protection of Electoral Sovereignty: Cooperation between CIS, African, and Latin American States. She shared insights from her experience observing the general elections in the Republic of Uganda, which took place on 15 January 2026.
According to Daria Lantratova, international observation is a crucial component of the electoral process and represents a key area for strengthening electoral systems.
The conference programme also featured presentations from Nikolai Grishin, Professor at the Department of Comparative and Applied Political Science, Institute of International Relations and Political Sciences of the Russian State University for the Humanities, and Artyom Kureyev, Editor-in-Chief of the African Initiative news agency.
