The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and the Ambassador of Egypt to the Russian Federation discussed prospects for interparliamentary cooperation.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and Head of the Federation Council Group for Cooperation with the Senate of the Arab Republic of Egypt Inna Svyatenko held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Russia Hamdi Shaaban.
The Deputy Speaker noted the friendly ties and steadily developing relations between Russia and Egypt. “Our counties have managed to maintain strong momentum in political dialogue, business cooperation, cultural and humanitarian exchange, and tourism. At the same time, contacts between the heads of state are of particular importance, as they define the key priorities of our cooperation,” Inna Svyatenko said.
She recalled that elections to the Egyptian Senate were held last year. According to Inna Svyatenko, Russian senators are awaiting the formation of the Egyptian side of the cooperation group with the Federation Council in order to organise a joint meeting.
The officials agreed that interparliamentary dialogue makes an important contribution to the development of Russian-Egyptian strategic partnership.
Hamdi Shaaban noted that the implementation of major projects also contributes to strengthening cooperation. As an example, he cited the construction of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
The meeting was also attended by member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Yevgeny Dietrich, who raised the issue of Russian-Egyptian cooperation in the transport sector. The senator expressed hope that Egyptian partners would take an active part in the International Transport and Logistics Forum, to be held in in St Petersburg on 1–3 April 2026.
Hamdi Shaaban emphasised that logistics issues are very important for Egypt and said that the invitation to take part in the Forum, sent by the Russian Ministry of Transport, is currently being considered by the relevant authorities in the country.
