Lawmakers are creating effective tools to minimise threats to financial security, noted the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Nikolai Zhuravlev took part in the 43rd plenary session of the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism (EAG), which was held in Minsk. This platform remains one of the key mechanisms for international cooperation in the field of financial security.
“Russia places a high value on the role of the EAG; the group makes a significant contribution to the development of mechanisms to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism,” the senator noted in his speech.
Nikolai Zhuravlev congratulated Rosfinmonitoring Director Yury Chikhanchin on his unanimous election as EAG Chairman for 2026–2027.
“This recognises Russia’s high standing in the field of financial security and of Yury Chikhanchin’s personal contribution. I am confident that under his professional leadership, the EAG will continue to develop at the strategic level,” the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council emphasised.
According to the senator, the Federation Council maintains constant interaction with the agency, including during the development of legislative initiatives in combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Over the past two years, Russia has adopted more than 30 anti-money laundering regulations. Nikolai Zhuravlev noted that the fundamental law has already been amended over 100 times to meet today’s challenges.
“Legislation is one of the most effective tools for protecting the financial system. That is why we initiated the Forum of Parliamentarians of EAG Member States. As its chairman, I see the main goal as uniting efforts to counter international financial threats by harmonising anti-money laundering systems,” the parliamentarian noted.
Nikolai Zhuravlev announced that the fifth Forum would take place in Turkmenistan in the spring of 2026, noting that joint efforts would strengthen the resilience of financial systems in Eurasian countries.
The senator thanked the organisers of the plenary week, particularly Vasily Gerasimov, Chairman of the State Control Committee of the Republic of Belarus, for the high level of preparation of the event.
