Belan Khamchiev, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management, and head of the Federation Council’s cooperation group with the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, met with Sami Mohammed Al-Sadhan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Russian Federation. The meeting was attended by Mohmad Akhmadov, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy and member of the Federation Council’s cooperation group with the Consultative Assembly of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a broad range of issues of mutual interest.
“Russian-Saudi relations continue to advance dynamically. Despite the current challenging international environment, we are successfully expanding cooperation across a number of areas,” Belan Khamchiev emphasised. He noted that the established, trust-based personal contacts between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, provide strong momentum to this cooperation.
The senator noted that Russia and Saudi Arabia hold close or identical positions on key international and regional issues. He also emphasised that interparliamentary contacts are steadily expanding.
He also highlighted the increase in mutual trade as a current priority in the development of bilateral relations.
“Despite the progress already achieved, the potential for further qualitative growth in our business cooperation is far from exhausted. Relevant agencies and companies need to work more closely in this area,” Belan Khamchiev said.
The senator welcomed the decision by Saudi Arabia’s leadership to be a guest country at the 29th St Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2026. “I am confident that this will further strengthen our business partnership and give new momentum to cooperation in the most important and promising areas. It is symbolic that this event will take place in the year marking the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Russian-Saudi diplomatic relations,” he said.
Belan Khamchiev highlighted the Saudi side’s continued attention to organising pilgrimages for Russian Muslims to the Kingdom’s holy sites, and noted the steady growth in bilateral tourism.
Sami Mohammed Al-Sadhan emphasised that Saudi Arabia is interested in further expanding cooperation with the Russian Federation across a wide range of fields, including economy, trade, culture, and tourism, for the mutual benefit of both countries. “We must work together to boost this cooperation,” the Ambassador said.
