Federation Council Deputy Speaker and the Ambassador of Pakistan discussed future interaction between parliamentarians and diplomats.
Federation Council Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Russian Federation Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, who took up his duties in Moscow in late October.
According to Konstantin Kosachev, Russian senators have established a productive interaction with the Pakistani diplomatic mission in Russia. “Interparliamentary Russian-Pakistani contacts have been developing in a constructive vein. This is largely facilitated by career diplomats,” the Deputy Speaker stated.
He noted that Pakistan is a major partner of Russia in the Asian region. “We have an enormous expanse for bilateral interaction at international multilateral platforms, particularly within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.”
Konstantin Kosachev recalled that the senators’ visit to Pakistan last autumn led by the Federation Council Speaker showed the sincere interest of Pakistani parliamentarians in promoting concrete projects for bilateral interparliamentary and intergovernmental cooperation. ”We see the results of our parliamentary efforts in their implementation,” the Deputy Speaker emphasised.
Faisal Niaz Tirmizi expressed his intent to continue the work of his colleagues in promoting Russian-Pakistani relations, including interparliamentary contacts.
In the course of their conversation, Konstantin Kosachev and Faisal Niaz Tirmizi discussed various issues concerning the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, which is to be held in Islamabad this week, and touched upon the question of interparliamentary contacts.
