Sergey Ryabukhin: Senators of Russia and Brazil step up cooperation on a wide range of topics

These include culture, education, and healthcare.

First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on the Budget and Financial Markets and Head of the Federation Council Cooperation Group with the Federal Senate of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil Sergey Ryabukhin held a meeting with a delegation from the Federal Senate of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The delegation is headed by Eudocia Maria Holanda de Araújo-Caldas. Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Alexander Trembitsky and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Russian Federation Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos attended the meeting.

Sergey Ryabukhin noted that the Russian members of the friendship group are awaiting the completion of the process for forming a similar entity in the Senate of the National Congress. “This will allow parliamentarians from the two countries to continue mutual contacts and to step up bilateral activities.”

The senator said Russian parliamentarians were ready to discuss a wide range of matters, including culture, education, and healthcare, within the framework of interparliamentary contacts. “These topics can also be incorporated into the work of the friendship groups. Russian and Brazilian senators have many areas for joint activity,” Sergey Ryabukhin said.

He also noted that Archpriest Francisco de Assis da Cruz Feitosa, rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God Hodegetria in Brasilia, visited Russia in July 2025. “The visit was made possible by Russian parliamentarians, among other facilitators.” Eudocia Maria Holanda de Araújo-Caldas said that an application to register an interparliamentary relations group has been filed with the Senate of the National Congress of the Federative Republic of Brazil. She also noted that her Brazilian colleagues support the creation of a BRICS+ geopolitical group within the IPU.

The legislator emphasised Brazil’s interest in cooperating with Russia in fighting cancer and expressed hope that the achievements of Russian researchers will become available in Brazil.
