On the Republic’s Independence Day, the First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council attended a ceremonial military parade in Hanoi’s Ba Dinh Square, greeted the marching unit of the Russian Armed Forces, and congratulated the Vietnamese leadership on this historic date.
The anniversary events were attended by senior Vietnamese officials as well as delegations from the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, and the People’s Republic of China, as well as the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Republic of Cuba, and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Sixteen thousand service members marched through the central square, and modern weaponry and military equipment were displayed at the parade as well.
On the same day, Vladimir Yakushev met with Politburo member of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man.
During their talks, the sides discussed issues related to organising delegation exchanges and promoting cooperation between youth and women’s movements.
Vladimir Yakushev congratulated the Speaker of the Vietnamese parliament on the 80th anniversary of the country’s independence and thanked Vietnam’s leadership for its unshakable commitment to preserving Russian-Vietnamese friendship. “The productive discussions in May between the leaders of our two countries once again confirmed the high level of trust and friendship between our two states. We look forward to implementing all agreements reached at the top level,” the First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council said.
Tran Thanh Man particularly emphasised the assistance that the Soviet Union had provided to Vietnam in its struggle against foreign forces. “The victory of the August Revolution became an important milestone in the national liberation struggle of our people. We remember the Soviet Union’s help in these processes,” the Speaker of the Vietnamese parliament said.
The participants also discussed a wide range of issues concerning inter-parliamentary and trade and economic cooperation. Vladimir Yakushev highlighted a number of priority projects related to monetary and financial, energy, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Russia and Vietnam.
As part of the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Nguyen Khac Dinh delivered a report on the activities of the Russian-Vietnamese Interparliamentary Friendship Group.
