Lilia Gumerova took part in the opening of Valentina Tereshkova Boarding School’s new building in Kyrgyzstan

Today, over 200 teachers from Russian regions work at Kyrgyz schools, the senator noted.


Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova took part in the opening ceremony of the new building of Valentina Tereshkova Comprehensive Boarding School No 11 in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The event was attended by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov. The world’s first female cosmonaut, Hero of the Soviet Union, State Duma deputy Valentina Tereshkova addressed participants via videoconference. Igor Maslov, Head of the Presidential Directorate for Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts with Foreign Countries, also spoke at the ceremony.

Lilia Gumerova highlighted the strategic nature of Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation in all areas, including education, science, and culture, stressing the importance of strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between young people of the two countries.

The senator noted that Valentina Tereshkova School was opened in 1964 and boasts unique traditions: “Every schoolchild knows about the world’s first female cosmonaut. They respect our common past and traditional family values. Instruction is in the Kyrgyz language, but studying Russian is mandatory,” the senator said.

According to Lilia Gumerova, the new building will accommodate 700 schoolchildren, including 500 boarders. “It is equipped with modern facilities such as a football field, sports grounds, and a garden.”

The committee head mentioned the successful implementation of the Russian Teacher Abroad programme, which was initiated by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko: “More than 200 teachers from Russian regions currently work in Kyrgyz schools, while local educators participate in advanced training programmes, including at the Akmulla Bashkir Pedagogical University.”

Lilia Gumerova spoke about a large-scale project to build nine Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan. “It will help ensure high-quality secondary education in line with Russian standards,” the parliamentarian believes.

As part of her visit, Lilia Gumerova laid flowers at the memorial complex for soldiers killed during the Great Patriotic War, visited educational organisations, and met with students and faculty of Osh State University.

The senator’s programme also includes visits to the Russian House in Osh, the Aliyma Tashiyeva Centre for the Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, and participation in the opening of the Jalal-Abad Regional Art School.
