Konstantin Kosachev attends a meeting of a working group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union

The discussion focused on preparations for the upcoming Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev represents the Eurasia geopolitical group in the working group.

The agenda of the meeting, which was held via videoconference and co-chaired by President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Tulia Ackson and Secretary-General Martin Chungong, included the nomination of candidates for the Cremer-Passy Prize in 2025.

The participants discussed six candidates from four of IPU’s geopolitical groups. The names have not been disclosed.

Konstantin Kosachev recalled that “the idea of the contest was proposed by the Russian delegation when Russia held executive posts in the IPU Executive Committee in 2015–2018.”

The Cremer-Passy Prize, named after the IPU’s founders, William Randall Cremer and Frédéric Passy, is awarded every year to sitting parliamentarians who make an outstanding contribution to the defence and promotion of the IPU’s objectives, as well as those ”who contribute to a more united, peaceful, sustainable and equitable world.”
