Lilia Gumerova: Russia and Iran expand cultural ties

According to the Senator, both countries are active in preparing for the Festival of Russian Culture in Iran.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova held a meeting with a delegation of the Commission on Culture of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, led by Commission member Hamid Rasaee.

The meeting was also attended by Dmitry Vasilenko, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture and head of the Group on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee Ilyas Umakhanov.

Lilia Gumerova said that the Federation Council set great store by the friendly and good-neighbourly Russian-Iranian relations. She reminded her guests that a new basic interstate treaty was signed in January of this year, a treaty that for the first time defined the comprehensive strategic nature of bilateral partnership. “We are committed to implementing this treaty. We hope that Iran will soon finalise all the ratification procedures.”

She commented on issues related to the Festival of Russian Culture due to be held from 9 to 13 June in Iran and the third meeting of the Committee on Culture of the Standing Russian-Iranian Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which was scheduled for 11 June.

“We count on our Iranian friends’ assistance. We also hope that these events will be held on the leading Iranian platforms with high government support and be as successful as the Iranian cultural events in Russia last year,” Lilia Gumerova said.

According to Hamid Rasaee, Russia and Iran have a shared interest in expanding cultural, humanitarian and scientific cooperation, among other things. He believes that this helps to strengthen interstate relations.

Hamid Rasaee has confirmed the Iranian Parliament’s intent to facilitate the organisation of the Festival of Russian Culture.

Lilia Gumerova and Hamid Rasaee also focused on promoting Russian-Iranian inter-parliamentary ties, including regular contacts at the level of the parliamentary cooperation groups.

The participants held a substantive exchange of views on issues falling within the purview of the related committees. They also discussed the development of tourism. Both parties noted that their countries were committed to supporting and preserving the traditional family values.
