In Mexico City, Russian senators discussed interparliamentary cooperation with the President of the Senate of the Mexican General Congress.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko and member of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building Natalia Kuvshinova met with President of the Senate of the Mexican General Congress Jose Gerardo Rodolfo Noroña. The meeting took place in Mexico City on the eve of the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians, From Mexico to the World: Let’s Mobilise for Gender Parity.
The Federation Council Deputy Speaker conveyed best regards from Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko and thanked for the invitation to take part in this large- scale and representative event.
“Let me congratulate you on successfully holding last year’s general elections, which were won by a woman for the first time in the history of Mexico, who became the head of state. Effective working relations have been established between Russian and Mexican legislators. We are interested in strengthening bilateral cooperation, including between the friendship groups and political factions in our parliaments, as well as in multilateral formats such as the summit of speakers of parliaments of the G20 countries,” Inna Svyatenko said.
She added that contacts between parliamentarians, including at international forums, demonstrated that the two countries’ positions on most issues on the global agenda were close or aligned.
The Deputy Speaker also noted that Russia and Mexico shared such priorities on the global stage as establishing a more just, democratic and polycentric world order and complying with the norms and principles of international law, above all, respect for the sovereign equality of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
Inna Svyatenko spoke about the upcoming international events held by the Federation Council, in particular the Nevky International Ecological Congress and the Commonwealth of Fashion forum. She reminded the President about the invitation to visit Russia: “We will be delighted to receive a Mexican delegation in Moscow.”
The Mexican side was enthusiastic about the invitation.
