The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council and the Ambassador of Ethiopia discussed the results of the Russian delegation’s visit to Addis Ababa.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation Genet Teshome Jirru.
The officials discussed the results of the visit to Addis Ababa by a representative Russian delegation headed by Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, held last February. They also spoke about the implementation of decisions adopted during the visit, as well as outlined goals for joint work.
Konstantin Kosachev said that the meetings between Russian senators and the leadership of Ethiopia and Ethiopian MPs were quite effective, while noting both sides’ commitment to expand wide-ranging bilateral cooperation.
According to Konstantin Kosachev, the intention of MPs to retain the upward trend in collaboration completely matched the strategic nature of bilateral relations and the decisions made earlier by the leaders of the two countries.
Genet Teshome Jirru spoke about the development of interparliamentary contacts, noting that the meeting between co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Ethiopian Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and Trade, held as part of the visit, was quite productive.
“The visit was very important for the Ethiopian side. We are happy to note that it took place at such a high level. The delegation, headed by the Speaker of the Federation Council, included heads and representatives of various ministries, agencies, state corporations and institutions. We discussed in detail cooperation in such areas as the economy, trade, education and healthcare,” the Ambassador of Ethiopia said.

During the official visit to Ethiopia of the delegation of the upper house of the Russian Parliament on 18–20 February 2025, the Federation Council Speaker met with the President and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, as well as Speakers of both houses of the national Parliament. The Speaker of the Federation Council and the Speaker of the Ethiopian Parliament’s upper house took part in an official ceremony of opening of a multifunctional information hub Sputnik in Addis Ababa.
