Mohmad Akhmadov: Russia and Oman are discussing the expansion of mutual tourist flows

Bilateral tourism projects were discussed at the initiative of the leadership of the Sultanate of Oman.

A roundtable discussion on the development of bilateral cooperation in tourism with the Sultanate of Oman was held at the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy.

“The Russian Federation and the Sultanate of Oman have friendly relations, which are based on the similarity of their approaches to current global and regional issues. We are sincerely determined to further develop our cooperation in all areas,” Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev said in his welcoming remarks.

The discussion was moderated by Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Mohmad Akhmadov.

“The meeting is held at the initiative of the leadership of the Sultanate of Oman, following a bilateral meeting with members of the cooperation group of the Federation Council and the State Council of the Sultanate of Oman, aimed at developing mutual tourist flows and joint investment tourism projects,” the senator said.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman Hamood bin Salim bin Abdullah Al Towaiya said the potential for expanding tourism cooperation between the two countries is limitless. He believes that Oman’s unique attractions – majestic mountains, deserts and beaches, as well as heritage sites – along with the picturesque landscapes of Russia and its abundant landmarks, offer are a real treasure trove of experiences for travellers from both countries.

“Tourism is not just an economic sector but a strong bridge that connects cultures, promotes mutual understanding, and encourages development,” Hamood bin Salim bin Abdullah Al Towaiya said.

According to Mohmad Akhmadov, Oman is becoming an increasingly popular tourist destination for Russians today.

“The growth of outbound flows is encouraged by a simplified visa regime: two weeks of stay in the country without a visa and direct flights,” the senator said.

He added that 94 percent of people surveyed in Oman consider Russia to be a promising tourist destination.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee of the State Council of Oman Dhafir bin Awadh Al Shanfari, Deputy Minister of Culture of Russia Andrey Malyshev, State Secretary – Deputy Minister of Sports of Russia Alexander Nikitin, as well as representatives of relevant Russian and Omani departments and the professional community.
