Russian and Indonesian parliamentarians compared approaches on a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues.
Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin met with Head of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Mardani Ali Sera, who leads a delegation of the Committee. The meeting was attended by First Deputy Chairs of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrey Denisov and Sergei Kislyak, as well as Deputy Chair of the Committee Bair Zhamsuyev.
“We highly appreciate the opportunity to compare our stances on all matters with our Indonesian colleagues on a regular basis. We regard Indonesia as Russia’s reliable good friend and like-minded state in the Asian-Pacific Region,” Grigory Karasin said.
The parliamentarian noted that Russian senators welcome Indonesia joining BRICS as a full member. “We believe it would help further consolidate the countries of the Global South and East based on the principles of a just and balanced multipolar world order,” the senator stressed.
Grigory Karasin and Sergei Kislyak informed their Indonesian colleagues on the outcomes of Russia’s chairmanship of BRICS in 2024 and related parliamentary events. During the conversation, the Russian side expressed hope for the further promotion of cooperation between the two countries at BRICS and other international organisations, as well as in bilateral format.
Mardani Ali Sera spoke about Indonesian parliamentarians’ tasks on the diplomatic and legislative tracks, including at BRICS.
The parties discussed a wide range of issues, including parliamentary cooperation aimed to expand trade, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, as well as the efforts to develop interregional ties. They also arranged a preliminary schedule of bilateral interparliamentary contacts and visits, including those of friendship groups.
