Grigory Karasin: Strengthening Russia’s relations with Middle Eastern states will help to build a multipolar world

Senators and experts discussed the situation in the Middle East region.

Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin held a meeting on developments in the Middle East.

The meeting was attended by Russian Federation senators, representatives of related ministries and agencies, and members of the research and expert community.

The main report was delivered by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.

Grigory Karasin highlighted the importance of the topic under discussion in the current complex international setting. “The developments in the Middle East region are playing a significant role in the context of efforts to identify trends in global affairs.”

He reminded his audience that Russia’s Middle East policy has always been based on an unwavering support for the peoples’ right to choose their own path of national development. “Strengthening Russia’s relations with Middle Eastern states is highly important as a factor in building a multipolar world,” he stated.

The participants focused on the situation in Syria and on Palestinian-Israeli conflict settlement.

Grigory Karasin stressed that the Federation Council devotes much attention to promoting inter-parliamentary ties with Middle Eastern countries.

“The senators are planning to take an active part in the upcoming April session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, where a resolution on the role of parliaments in promoting the principle of coexistence of Israel and Palestine as two independent states will be discussed,” he said.
