Federation Council Deputy Speaker and Serbian Foreign Minister discussed key current issues.
A meeting took place between Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev and Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric.
Konstantin Kosachev emphasised that Russian parliamentarians are closely following the political developments in Serbia. “We firmly believe that dialogue is the sole path to resolving issues. Regardless of how the political process unfolds, we remain committed to continuing interstate and interparliamentary cooperation,” he stated. The Deputy Speaker also underscored the importance of strengthening ties in the spirit of strategic partnership, built on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s interests.
Konstantin Kosachev highlighted the significance of interparliamentary contacts as a key aspect of bilateral relations. “We view the joint meeting of the parliamentary committees on foreign affairs, held on November 29, 2024, in Belgrade, as highly productive,” he said.
The senator also expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to the Russian parliamentary delegation during their visit to Belgrade on October 20, 2024 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the city’s liberation from Nazi occupation.
Marko Djuric underscored the pivotal role of the Soviet Union in liberating Yugoslavia from Nazi forces during World War II.
The Serbian Foreign Minister also highlighted the significance of Russia’s efforts in promoting stability in the Balkans.
Marko Djuric emphasised that inter-parliamentary cooperation is a valuable instrument for fostering a deeper understanding of bilateral relations. He reaffirmed Serbia’s commitment to maintaining a strategic dialogue with Russia.
During the discussion, both sides addressed a broad scope of topics concerning the future development of Russian-Serbian cooperation and exchanged views on key regional, European, and global issues.
Konstantin Kosachev confirmed that Russia looks forward to welcoming Serbian leaders at the upcoming celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Nazism.
