Konstantin Kosachev: Contacts between Russian and Ethiopian MPs remain highly dynamic

Together with the Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, we discussed multilateral interparliamentary collaboration, the Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council said.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Russian Federation Genet Teshome Jirru.

Konstantin Kosachev emphasised that Ethiopia as an important partner for Russia on the African continent. “The history of our diplomatic relations spans 127 years. Throughout this time, our two countries have maintained strong friendly ties, which, with Ethiopia’s accession to BRICS, are reaching a new level and dimension.”

“Contacts between Russian and Ethiopian MPs remain highly dynamic. The Memorandum of Understanding between the Federation Council and the Federation Council of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which was signed two years ago, established a legal framework for bilateral collaboration and elevated our dialogue to a new level. Our lawmakers meet regularly, cooperate at international platforms, and actively engage through interparliamentary friendship groups,” the Federation Council Deputy Speaker added.

Genet Teshome Jirru emphasised that Ethiopia and Russia had always supported each other during challenging moments in history. He noted that Ethiopia can offer Russia a wide range of cooperation opportunities that may be of interest to Russian investors.

The discussion also touched upon preparations for the upcoming official visit of a Federation Council delegation to Ethiopia, to be led by Valentina Matvienko.
