Inna Svyatenko: Russia and China cross years of culture offer new cooperation opportunities

The Federation Council Deputy Speaker took part in the Made in Russia festival and fair in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province.

During a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko met with Hao Peng, Secretary of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee.

“The partner relations between Russia and China are a vivid example of fruitful cooperation. In accordance with a decision adopted by President of Russia Vladimir Putin and President of China Xi Jinping, 2024 and 2025 have been declared the Cultural Cross Years of Russia and China. We have already held many events that opened new opportunities for cooperation and helped increase the number of tourists. Taken together, this is helping strengthen friendship between our countries,” Inna Svyatenko pointed out.

The Deputy Speaker noted that in 2023, a delegation led by Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko made an official visit to China, during which the senators also visited the Liaoning Province.

The Senator emphasised the exchange of legislative experience as part of active cooperation with China, including when it comes to the development of the two countries’ youth policies at the level of the Federation Council and the Moscow Region’s parliament. “In 2024, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with a delegation of young members of China’s parliament, and Chair of the Moscow City Duma Alexei Shaposhnikov briefed his Chinese colleagues on working with young members of parliament and the introduction of digital technologies. He also spoke about interparliamentary cooperation, in particular, at the level of the International Municipal BRICS Forum.”

Inna Svyatenko, who represents the Moscow City legislature at the Federation Council, also informed her Chinese colleagues about the Chinese New Year in Moscow festival, which will open for the second time on 28 January. The festival offers Moscow residents and visitors a rich programme of events and food entertainment activities, which will introduce visitors to China’s traditions. The festival is organised by the Moscow City Government with support from the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Embassy in Russia.

The Deputy Speaker and Director General of the Russian Export Centre Veronika Nikishina opened the Made in Russia festival and fair in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province.

Inna Svyatenko, who also chairs the Federation Council Commission for the Development of Creative Industries and Folk Arts, said that the Made in Russia festival was a major element in the joint efforts of Russia and China to preserve their cultures and traditions.

“The festival’s rich programme was formulated with due regard for the Chinese tourists’ demand for products made in Russia and the high trust for their quality. This year, Russian regions are represented at the festival more broadly, with foods, drinks, beauty care products, souvenirs and folk crafts provided by over 120 producers from 43 Russian regions,” Inna Svyatenko said. Visitors can test and buy products made by big and small Russian companies and also learn new facts about Russia. The festival’s programme includes concerts by Russian folk groups, visitors can watch Russian cartoons, and have a good time in the VR arena and an interactive zone with Russian video games. The Digital Art Russia exhibition is a major feature of the festival.

Veronika Nikishina noted that Russian exporters had sold about 500 million roubles’ worth of products and signed contracts with Chinese companies to the tune of over 4.5 billion roubles during the Made in Russia festivals and fairs held last year.

The events of the Made in Russia festival and fair were attended by Russia’s Consul General in Shenyang Natalya Pryzhkova, First Deputy Governor of the Primorye Territory Vera Shcherbina, the governor and deputy governor of the Liaoning Province, members of the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the mayor of Shenyang.
