Galina Karelova: Women find new opportunities for uniting international agenda

The Head of the EWF Council is taking part in the International Women's Economic Forum held in Bahrain.

Chairwoman of the Council of the Eurasian Women’s Forum, Russian Senator Galina Karelova spoke at the Innovative Diplomacy: Women Shaping Legal Landscapes discussion at the International Women’s Economic Forum, which is being held in Manama, Bahrain.

The forum participants focus on key trends and strategies that determine the future of the economy. The announced topics include the role of women leaders in accelerating global progress, development of women’s entrepreneurship, role of artificial intelligence, and impact of the digital economy and creative industries on economic growth, encouraging innovation and increasing cultural wealth.

“Today’s challenges that humanity is facing – climate change, new epidemics, cyber threats – require combining efforts, overcoming political and ideological barriers. Women find new opportunities for this, implementing a unifying agenda and expanding possible forms of communication between countries,” the parliamentarian said.

Galina Karelova noted that the growing number of international platforms where women leaders could discuss topical problems was a trend, stressing that the women’s track has actually become an integral part of the forums held by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, BRICS, and G20.

According to her, this reflects women’s desire to find new areas of interaction and implement non-standard diplomatic solutions, beneficially influencing politics and the economy. The Senator used the example of the Eurasian Women’s Forum (EWF), which brings together more participants each time with new countries constantly joining its projects.

She also noted that new international formats of women’s cooperation have been formed and are successfully developing on the sidelines of the EWF, such as the BRICS Women’s Business Alliance, the International Council for the Support and Development of Women in Industry and Technology, the Club of Winners of the APEC Women's Entrepreneurial Initiatives Competition, and associations of women from Russia, Central Asia, and Africa.

“These associations’ activities help increase the number of women entrepreneurs in our countries, expand the geography of their activities, actively participate in society’s socioeconomic life, and increase the contribution to the GDP of their countries. Thanks to the coordination mechanism of the Women 20 (W20), the opinions of women’s communities are taken into account by the world leaders,” Galina Karelova believes.

She stressed that in recent years, cooperation between women in Russia and the Middle East has noticeably strengthened and expanded. She believes that the work of the International Women’s Economic Forum will further encourage it.

The forum in Manama is held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Supreme Council for Women. According to the organisers, the goal of the forum is to honour the achievements of women leaders and create new opportunities for cooperation and growth.
