Richard Ravalomanana: Madagascan parliamentarians aim to preserve and strengthen bilateral relations with Russia

The President of the Senate of the Republic of Madagascar spoke at the plenary session of the Federation Council about the prospects of interparliamentary cooperation.

President of the Senate of the Republic of Madagascar Richard Ravalomanana spoke at the 582nd plenary session of the Federation Council. The Madagascan delegation paid an official visit to Russia.

Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko described the head of the Madagascan Senate as an experienced statesman and a wise politician who enjoys well-deserved authority. “Richard Ravalomanana is in favour of further developing and strengthening ties with Russia,” the Speaker said.

Richard Ravalomanana noted the friendly relations between Madagascar and Russia, which date back several decades. “Russia helped Madagascar maintain public order and security during the 1972 revolution. Madagascan people who are educated in Russia become ambassadors of our peoples' friendship.”

He said it was the first time that the President of the Senate of Madagascar had been in Moscow on an official visit. “This is an important milestone in the history of interparliamentary ties between our two countries,” he emphasised.

The President of the Senate of Madagascar believes that Russia can serve as an example for his country, which has great economic and human potential. “There have never been problems between us in any sphere. Madagascan parliamentarians aim to preserve and strengthen bilateral relations on the basis of mutual benefit and equality.”

In his opinion, parliamentary diplomacy in the service of the people is an important tool for developing relations. “The Federation Council and the Senate of the Republic of Madagascar can expand their ties in the spirit of friendship. Madagascan parliamentarians are open to cooperation.”
