Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko meets with the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

The discussion encompassed pressing matters pertaining to trade and economic engagement, as well as cultural and humanitarian collaboration.

Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko met with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The dialogue occurred within the context of the official visit by the Federation Council's delegation to Kazakhstan and lasted for over two hours.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev remarked that the visit of the Speaker of the Federation Council represents another significant milestone, not only in terms of fortifying interparliamentary connections but also in further broadening the comprehensive bilateral multidimensional strategic partnership.

”The relations between our states are progressing on an upward trajectory. President Vladimir Putin recently was on a state visit to our country, which has significantly propelled the further development of the strategic partnership and alliance between our countries. I am decidedly optimistic regarding the future of our collaboration,“ stated the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

According to Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, interparliamentary diplomacy plays an integral role in these processes. He emphasised that the deputies contribute substantially to the ongoing promotion of constructive cooperation between the two countries.

The officials deliberated on salient issues concerning trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation.

The Speaker of the Federation Council expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet and highlighted the close and amicable relations between President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the leader of Kazakhstan. In Ms Matvienko's view, the leaders have set an unprecedent level for cooperation between the two nations.

”Our collaboration, which is gathering pace, is both constructive and respectful. Trade turnover, investment, major industrial and energy projects, as well as collaboration in agriculture, are tangible examples of a robust strategic partnership and alliance,“ stated the Speaker.

Ms Matvienko apprised the President of Kazakhstan of the outcomes of the meeting with Chairman of the Senate of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev and the signed Plan of Interparliamentary Cooperation for 2025–2027.

Following the meeting, Valentina Matvienko informed the press that the entire agenda of Russia-Kazakhstan relations was discussed during the conversation with the President of Kazakhstan. According to the Speaker of the Federation Council, the parties addressed the implementation of significant projects. ”Kazakhstan is interested in Rosatom's involvement in the construction of nuclear power plants. However, no definitive decision has been made yet; it remains under discussion and will be determined by the leadership of Kazakhstan.“

Valentina Matvienko further mentioned that the meeting also broached issues of cultural collaboration. ”The President of Kazakhstan has consistently supported the deepening of cooperation in education and culture. We will now oversee the construction of Russian schools and the training of teachers.“ According to the Federation Council Speaker, the Kazakhstani leader underscored the importance of creating conditions conducive to the study of the Russian language within the country.

”The head of state reaffirmed that Kazakhstan regards Russia as a strategic partner. This assurance serves as a guarantee that all agreements will be honoured, and we have new horizons and prospects for expanding mutually beneficial cooperation while considering national interests,“ asserted Valentina Matvienko.
