Vladimir Bulavin: Russia and Indonesia expanding interparliamentary contacts

The senators met with Indonesian MPs and the leadership of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the National Counter-Terrorism Agency.


On 11–14 November, a delegation of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security, headed by Committee Chair Vladimir Bulavin, paid a working visit to Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia. The delegation included First Deputy Chair of the Committee Vladimir Chizhov and member of the Committee Nikolai Kondratyuk.

The Russian senators met with Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council, the upper house of the Indonesian Parliament, Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly, Utut Adianto, Chairperson of the First Commission of the House of Representatives, the lower house of Parliament, as well as the leadership of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the National Counter-Terrorism Agency.

According to Vladimir Bulavin, the MPs exchanged opinions on the current state of Russian-Indonesian relations and their development prospects, including interparliamentary ties and collaboration between national law enforcement agencies.

“The Indonesian side reaffirmed its readiness to expand collaboration, including political contacts, defence and security, trade and economic ties, as well as scientific, technological, cultural and humanitarian cooperation. We discussed a number of key international issues, such as Indonesia-BRICS cooperation, the situation in the Middle East, and coordinated efforts at multilateral interparliamentary platforms,” Vladimir Bulavin said.
