The First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council met with Deputy Speaker in Qatar's Shura Council Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti.
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin held a meeting with Deputy Speaker in Qatar's Shura Council Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti.
The meeting was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova and Deputy Chair of the Federation Committee for Agrarian and Food Policy Tatiana Sakharova.
The agenda included a large number of items. “We regard Qatar as an important partner in the Middle East relations with which are based on the principle of mutual benefit and respect for each other’s interests,” Andrey Yatskin pointed out. He said that trust-based and substantive political dialogue at the highest level was evidence of the high standards of bilateral relations, adding that the two countries’ foreign ministries regularly discussed their positions.
“We should take active steps to develop cooperation between the Russian and Qatari parliaments,” Andrey Yatskin noted. He said he was convinced that there are ample possibilities to strengthen Russian-Qatari cooperation on that track.
The Senator mentioned the potential of bilateral youth contacts. “We should make broader use of the energy of the new generation of politicians for discussing joint initiatives and look for new nonstandard solutions to current issues,” he said.
Andrey Yatskin spoke about the Chamber of Young Legislators at the Federation Council, which has been working for over 10 years as a driver of parliamentary activities among young people. “There is an opportunity to develop interaction between the Chamber and our Qatari colleagues and to hold regular meetings, for example, by videoconference,” he said.
The Senator spoke about the positive development of trade and economic ties and emphasised the importance of boosting the operation of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation.
“We are committed to the further development of partner relations with Qatar in the interests of lasting stability in the zone of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the region as a whole,” the First Deputy Speaker noted.
Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti is taking part in the 3rd International Forum Woman of the Third Millennium. In September 2024, she attended the Fourth Eurasian Women's Forum held in St Petersburg. Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti called for the further development of bilateral interparliamentary cooperation.
