A delegation of the upper house of the Russian parliament headed by Valentina Matvienko is currently on an official visit to Pakistan.
During the Federation Council delegation’s official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
The Federation Council Speaker passed best regards from President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to the President of Pakistan.
Valentina Matvienko thanked Asif Ali Zardari for the hospitality shown to the Russian parliamentary delegation.
The Federation Council Speaker praised the high level of bilateral cooperation at the highest and high levels.
According to Valentina Matvienko, significant progress has been achieved in developing Russia-Pakistan cooperation in the past years.
“This visit confirms our firm commitment to the overarching development of the entire scope of Russia-Pakistan links. We value the friendliness of your country and its interest in a fruitful and mutually beneficial dialogue.”
Valentina Matvienko informed the President of Pakistan that the upper houses of the Russian and Pakistani parliaments had signed a memorandum of cooperation to develop bilateral parliamentary dialogue.
The President of Pakistan welcomed the expansion of interparliamentary links and thanked Russian senators for their energetic efforts to develop the dialogue.
The parties also discussed the development of bilateral relations and the topical international agenda.
Other participants in the meeting included Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Defence and Security and Head of the Group on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of Pakistan Vladimir Chizhov, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lyudmila Skakovskaya, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on the Budget and Financial Markets Mukharby Ulbashev, and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy and member of the Group on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of Pakistan Yury Fedorov.
