Our task is to improve relations between countries and peoples, Yury Vorobyov said.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Yury Vorobyov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation Gurgen Arsenyan. Member of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Alexander Karelin took part in the conversation.
During the meeting, the parties expressed their intention to foster inter-parliamentary relations. “Our task is to improve relations between countries and peoples and to overcome the existing difficulties,” said Yury Vorobyov, highlighting the importance of regular contacts through the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.
The discussion focused on the current state of Russian-Armenian relations and cooperation within the CSTO. The sides touched upon issues related to building two Russian schools in Armenia, promoting the Russian language, further youth exchanges and sports contacts. “Such important projects as Memory Train and Heirs of Traditions, in which Armenian schoolchildren participated, were successful, and I hope they will be continued. We should also support new ideas in this area,” Yury Vorobyov emphasised.
The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council also drew attention to the importance of maintaining cooperation within the framework of interregional cooperation. “This is one of the topics that should remain in our field of vision.”
Yury Vorobyov emphasised the importance of strengthening the historic ties between the two countries. He proposed organising a Russian-Armenian inter-parliamentary meeting dedicated to the Great Victory in the Patriotic War of 1941–1945.
Gurgen Arsenyan spoke about some of the outcomes of the CIS Heads of State Council meeting held in Moscow earlier this week. The Armenian Ambassador expressed support for continuing interaction and regular contacts with Russian parliamentarians.
