Federation Council Speaker had a meeting with Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of the Sultanate of Oman, Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko held a meeting with Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali, Chairman of the Consultative Assembly of the Sultanate of Oman, who has arrived in Russia on an official visit.
The Federation Council Speaker said that the two nations share long-standing friendly ties that have stood the test of time. “Our two countries have been developing their mutually beneficial relations across multiple domains, including the constructive and trust-based political dialogue as the integral part of these ties.”
Valentina Matvienko went on to recall that Sultan of Oman Haitham Al Said stood at the roots of Russia-Oman cooperation. “Next year, we will be marking 40 years of diplomatic relations, and we have an agreement resulting from an earlier meeting with Chairman of the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Abdul Malik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, to hold special events at our parliaments to mark this anniversary.”
The Federation Council Speaker went on to stress the importance of the visit by Oman’s delegation to Russia and said that she was certain that it will serve as a new impetus for developing bilateral relations in all their aspects, including in terms of developing interparliamentary ties.
Headed by Senator Mohmad Akhmadov, who represents the Chechen Republic, the Federation Council’s friendship group with the Council of State of the Sultanate of Oman has made a meaningful contribution to promoting this cooperation, Valentina Matvienko pointed out.
In his remarks, Khalid bin Hilal Al-Maawali reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to strengthening and developing bilateral relations, adding that the two countries shared close or converging positions on all matters, while dialogue between their leaders has created positive momentum in Russia-Oman cooperation.
The participants in the meeting discussed trade and economic relations and noted that mutual trade has been growing. Valentina Matvienko stressed the importance of Oman’s participation in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum this year as a guest country, as well as in the Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum international economic forum. Russian companies are open to working with their partners in Oman in the fuel and energy sector, tourism, transport, infrastructure and communications, she pointed out.
The Federation Council Speaker also mentioned region-to-region cooperation as a promising sphere. “We know that Russian regions are looking forward to working with Oman,” Valentina Matvienko said.
The two speakers also discussed cultural exchanges and educational cooperation.
The meeting’s participants also included Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy Mohmad Akhmadov, and First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on the Budget and Financial Markets Sergey Ryabukhin.
