The meeting was held by co-chairs of the Commission Andrey Yatskin and Zhakip Asanov.
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrey Yatskin and Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakip Asanov co-chaired the 22nd meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting, held in Almaty, was also attended by Russian senators Andrei Shevchenko, Andrei Yepishin, Yulia Lazutkina, Tatiana Sakharova and Oleg Tsepkin.
The commission discussed cooperation in transport and logistics, and in energy. The members also outlined the prospects of developing cooperation between regions, specifically between the border regions of Kazakhstan and Russia.
Cooperation in preserving historical memory was among the highlighted issues, particularly joint projects focused on searching for those who went missing during the Great Patriotic War, strengthening neighbourly relations between the two countries, raising the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and true human values, as well as eternalising the memory of those who died for the common Victory.
Andrey Yatskin noted that cooperation in preserving historical memory and conducting searches strengthens the neighbourly relations between the two countries and helps instil patriotism and genuine human values in the younger generation by paying tribute to those who gave their lives for the shared Victory.
Andrey Yatskin mentioned the Train of Memory cultural and educational project, which was launched by Russia and Belarus and joined by Kazakhstani pupils in 2024. The First Deputy Speaker invited the pupils to continue participating in this significant project next year. He also suggested discussing the organisation and potential outcomes of joint searches during the International Conference on the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945. Parliament representatives from all CIS states will receive invitations to the conference in 2025.
Speaking about transport and logistics, Andrey Yatskin noted that cooperation in these sectors forms the cornerstone of the two countries’ economic links. “The senators working on integrating our transport infrastructure specifically monitor the renovation of the checkpoints at the border between Russia and Kazakhstan,” the First Deputy Speaker said. He added that cooperation in logistics is a major growing aspect at the level of border and region-to-region cooperation. “As a house of regional representatives, the Federation Council actively supports the rapid development of multidimensional links between our regions.
Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakip Asanov noted that Russia is undoubtedly Kazakhstan's closest partner and reliable ally. “Our countries maintain a steady high-level political dialogue across the entire range of inter-state links,” he said.
Zhakip Asanov stressed that intensive dialogue also continues between the parliaments of the two countries.
First Deputy Minister of Energy Pavel Sorokin, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of Transport Dmitry Zverev and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dmitry Volvach also represented Russia during the commission meeting via videoconference.
After the meeting, the participants laid wreaths at the Eternal Flame in the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen Park in Almaty.
