The President of the Russian Federation addressed the plenary session of the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum.
President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin has addressed the plenary session of the Fourth Eurasian Women’s Forum, held in St Petersburg’s Tavricheskiy Palace.
In his remarks, the President said that the Eurasian Women’s Forum was one of the most highly respected international platforms demonstrating the potential and capabilities of modern women and the immense creative role they play in virtually all spheres of life.
The President of Russia placed a special emphasis on the fact that the forum reflects the key present-day aspirations and promotes the ideas of unity for sustainable development and universal security. “This is more important now than ever, and this is what millions of people across all continents desire. Humanity is facing extremely complicated issues, which can only be resolved together and based on respect for each other’s interests,” Vladimir Putin pointed out.
The plenary session was chaired by Speaker of the Federation Council and Chairperson of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, and Chairwoman of the Eurasian Women’s Forum’s Council Galina Karelova.
Taking the floor during the plenary session, Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Dilrabo Mansouri said that the Eurasian Women’s Forum has already become a prominent platform and makes a meaningful contribution to promoting international dialogue, spearheading new initiatives, and devising new ways of tackling global challenges. She went on to say that she was confident that the forum’s fourth meeting will help expand and reinforce multilateral cooperation and foster closer ties across multiple domains.
Sonia Gandhi, member of the Council of State of the Republic of India – the Rajya Sabha, sent a video message to the forum. “The Eurasian Women’s Forum has come to occupy a distinctive place as a platform for dialogue and discussion among women parliamentarians and thought leaders on current global concerns. Its significance has grown even more as the world grapples with the challenges of global warming and climate change, growing inequalities both within and across nations, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, the loss of livelihoods caused by environmental destruction, and the persistence of violence, of conflicts and wars,” she said, adding that these issues have a direct bearing on the daily lives of women, and that women have to work collectively to find enduring solutions.
President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Speaker of the National Assembly of the United Republic of Tanzania, Tulia Ackson, also addressed the forum in a video message. “The theme of this forum resonates deeply with IPU’s commitment to fostering inclusive and constructive interparliamentary dialogue. In particular, bringing together women leaders to discuss common concerns and exchange their experiences is of a crucial importance. Women’s leadership is a driving force behind progress in all the areas you will be discussing, from peacebuilding and technology to social wellbeing, environmental sustainability and cultural preservation,” Tulia Ackson pointed out.
