The First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council noted that the entire system of Russian-Vietnamese relations was making rapid headway.
First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Andrei Yatskin, Head of the Group for Cooperation between the Federation Council and the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Russia Dang Minh Khoi.
The Senator noted that the entire system of Russian-Vietnamese relations was making rapid headway. “The state visit of the President of Russia to Vietnam on June 20, 2024 greatly contributed to this process. We will implement agreements reached during the visit through parliamentary channels.”
The officials discussed the upcoming visit to Russia by Speaker of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man.
Andrei Yatskin specifically addressed the need to update interregional agreements between provinces of Vietnam and regions of the Russian Federation. Moscow, St Petersburg and the Rostov Region are among Russian territories that have shown interest in this cooperation.
Additionally, the Senator highlighted Vietnam’s position as Russia’s leading trade partner among ASEAN states, with bilateral trade reaching $5 billion in 2023.
The First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council mentioned that St Petersburg will host the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum on 18−20 September, and that a large delegation from Vietnam is expected to attend.
In turn, Dang Minh Khoi stressed the importance of expanding cultural and humanitarian contacts and strengthening cooperation in tourism. In 2023, about 125,000 Russian tourists visited the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and in January−June 2024, the country welcomed 123,000 Russian citizens.
“Our goal is to implement top-level agreements aiming to further strengthen relations between our countries,” the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary noted.
