Konstantin Kosachev meets with participants in the InterNovosti project

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council focused on modern geopolitical processes and answered journalists’ questions.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev held a meeting with participants in InterNovosti, a new project launched by the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Cultural Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo).

The project is aimed to improve the quality of information about Russia, beamed to audiences in foreign countries and makes it possible for young journalists and blogers from former USSR republics to undergo training at leading Russian media outlets. In 2024, the project involves journalists from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Konstantin Kosachev focused on modern geopolitical processes and explained the reasons why there were differences between Russia and the collective West, which led to the current confrontation.

He noted that an increasing number of states were aware of the need to renounce the West’s diktat and look for an alternative to the unipolar world model that failed to take into consideration the interests of the Global Majority.

According to Senator Kosachev, it is important to elaborate principles of multipolarity and establish effective international institutions that could replace the existing pro-American formats, where certain countries dominate over others and discriminate them.

Konstantin Kosachev regards BRICS as a prototype of effective multipolarty. Unlike the Western institutions, the diversity of views, cultures and viewpoints existing within it strengthens the positions of the member countries rather than weakens them, while makes it possible to find a more just and reasonable consensus.

It is not accidental, said Konstantin Kosachev, that the process of BRICS development, including the accession of new members and signing of partner agreements, is in high gear. He reminded his audience that a BRICS summit would be held in Kazan in October of this year, with representatives of member states of the CIS, SCO and other partner countries invited to take part in its events in an expanded format.

The Deputy Speaker answered foreign journalists’ questions related to the global and regional agenda, the strengthening of cooperation in the CIS space, and a search for solutions to current problems.

Konstantin Kosachev stressed the importance of meetings like this one for better mutual understanding and truthful coverage of Russia’s position and priorities in the former republics of the USSR.
