Sergei Kislyak meets with India’s Ambassador to Russia

India is a long-standing constructive and honest partner of Russia, the senator noted.

First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Sergei Kislyak had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation Vinay Kumar.

The senator noted that Russia and India have a rich history of friendship and cooperation. “India is our long-standing constructive and honest partner. It is significant for us that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his first foreign visit to Russia after his re-election. This underscores the strategic nature of our relations,” Sergei Kislyak said.

According to the senator, cooperation within BRICS has given additional momentum to bilateral cooperation, especially with Russia chairing the association this year. “This was confirmed by the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum that took place in St Petersburg recently.”

Vinay Kumar expressed his conviction that the people of Russia and India are close in spirit. According to him, many Indians remember and appreciate the assistance Russia has extended to the country for decades. He noted the high level of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and stressed the importance of expanding inter-parliamentary cooperation.

The parties exchanged views on various issues on the current international and regional agenda.
