The delegation of the Federation Council participated in monitoring the presidential elections in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The delegation included Yury Fedorov, head of the cooperation group between the Federation Council and the Venezuelan National Assembly, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture Lyudmila Skakovskaya, and member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy Alexander Zhukov.
Yury Fedorov emphasised that the elections were held at a very high level. He noted that 910 observers from over a hundred countries participated. “This did not happen in the previous elections to the National Assembly,” the senator said.
The parliamentarian added that the modern voting system for the presidential elections in Venezuela ensures the accuracy of the vote count. “Double control of digital technology with fingerprints and comparison with the paper ballots placed in the ballot box guarantees reliability in the vote count. If the digital and analogue systems fail, the election commission convenes and decides whether to include this result in the general voting system.”
The senator noted the high voter turnout.
After the official announcement of the election results, Yury Fedorov remarked that Nicolas Maduro’s victory is a triumph for the people of Venezuela, reflecting their desire for independence.
Prior to the elections, the Federation Council delegation participated in meetings with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil and attended an event organised for international observers, which included the country’s President Nicolas Maduro. Additionally, they had contacts with the Chairman of the National Electoral Council, Elvis Amoroso.
