The Federation Council Deputy Speaker believes that Russian-Iranian relations are developing without pauses and breaks.
Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev had a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Council of Iran Ayatollah Alireza Arafi.
The conversation was attended by Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Grigory Karasin and member of the Federation Council Group on cooperation with the parliaments of Arab states Senator Mohmad Akhmadov.
Konstantin Kosachev congratulated the Iranian side on the successful presidential election. ”The first contacts between the leaders of the two states have already taken place, so we can confidently say that relations between Russia and Iran are developing without pauses and breaks,“ the senator said. According to him, this is confirmed by active contacts via various channels, including parliamentary, as well as by the fact that Moscow and Tehran have finalised a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement. “Inter-parliamentary ties are also developing, which can be evidenced by the participation of Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in the work of the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in St Petersburg.”
Konstantin Kosachev underscored that Russian parliamentarians share the approaches of their Iranian colleagues to the issues of a just world order and respect for traditional values. “We are open to a mutually respectful discussion of any issues,” the Deputy Speaker said. He also noted that Russia and Iran have accumulated experience in overcoming illegal Western sanctions and can provide each other significant support.
According to Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, Iran is keen to develop relations with the Russian Federation and is determined to implement the comprehensive strategic partnership treaty.
During the conversation the parties discussed a wide range of issues of the international agenda, interaction within BRICS, as well as Russian-Iranian bilateral relations.
