Alexander Dvoinykh: We are discussing cooperation in agriculture and environmental management with our Chinese colleagues

A delegation from the relevant Federation Council Committee is on a visit to China.

A delegation of the Federation Council Committee on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management is on a visit to the People’s Republic of China.

The delegation is led by Committee Chair Alexander Dvoinykh. It also includes his deputy Belan Khamchiev and member of the Federation Council Committee Alexander Narolin.

During the visit, meetings are planned with representatives of the relevant committees of the National People’s Congress, ministries and departments of China. Parliamentarians are to discuss the development of trade and economic cooperation in agriculture and subsoil use.

According to Alexander Dvoinykh, today Russian-Chinese relations are officially defined by the parties as those of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation entering a new era, with 2024 marking the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“As part of expanding cooperation, we have visited the production sites of the Punzhentang medicine manufacturing enterprise. The company, founded in 1669, has a rich history. Now it is actively working to bring traditional Chinese medicine to the international level, collaborating with 28 countries,” the head of the Federation Council Committee said.

He also noted that the main raw materials used in the medicines are plant-based.

“There are a large number of medicinal plants in the Russian Federation that could be processed in Russia and exported to China. Moreover, the company’s products may also be in demand among Russians. We will continue to work within the working group created in the Committee.”

Alexander Dvoinykh noted that scientific support and personnel training in the agricultural complex were priorities both in the Russian Federation and in China.

During the visit, a meeting was held with Wu Kongming, President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences under the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China. The Academy is the leading national research institution in this field.

During the meeting, a number of the two countries’ cooperation topics were discussed. The main areas of Chinese academy’s research are seed selection, conservation of arable land fertility, agricultural technology and equipment, agricultural biosafety, green agriculture, and the development of agricultural areas.

“This experience is also interesting for Russian universities, scientists, and agricultural enterprises that are developing production automation and using innovative technologies. Our countries have great potential for interaction between educational institutions, creating opportunities for students to study the two countries’ best scientific developments and practices,” Alexander Dvoinykh said.
