Konstantin Kosachev: The future structure of multipolar world should be beneficial and safe for everybody

The Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council took part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev took part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. The event took place between 5 and 8 June 2024.

In his remarks at the session The Architecture of World Order: a View from Russia, Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev recalled the fundamental principle of the sovereign equality of all UN members, enshrined in Article 2 of the organisation's Charter. “At the same time, it is this principle that is constantly violated by a number of Western countries.”

The Deputy Speaker emphasised that one of the main reasons for the unstable situation in the world is that NATO and the EU go beyond their competence, their territorial and political borders.

“Nowadays, international law does not provide for measures that limit the activity of military-political blocs, neither are there corresponding regulatory institutions,” Konstantin Kosachev noted.

In his opinion, it is for this reason that the principle of equality and the architecture of the world order formed after the Second World War are violated.

“The future architecture of a multipolar world should be beneficial and safe for everybody, including the collective West,” said the Deputy Speaker. For this reason, according to Konstantin Kosachev, we need institutions of multipolarity at all levels, including mechanisms of finance regulation.
