Konstantin Kosachev: Russia-China interregional cooperation is a most promising growth point

The Deputy Federation Council Speaker met with the Governor of China’s Liaoning Province.


Deputy Federation Council Speaker Konstantin Kosachev met with Li Lecheng, Governor of the Liaoning Province of the People’s Republic of China.

During their meeting, the officials focused on prospects for Russia-China interregional cooperation. They discussed issues of industrial, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.

Konstantin Kosachev emphasised that Russia and China were jointly countering external challenges and threats in conditions of international turbulence and were successfully addressing domestic and external objectives.

“During the current global turbulence, Russia and China are displaying a pragmatic approach to interstate collaboration, while balancing each other’s interests. Russia-China collaboration has global significance,” the Deputy Federation Council Speaker believes.

“Interregional cooperation occupies a special place in the entire system of bilateral strategic partnership and ranks among the most promising growth points,” Konstantin Kosachev said.

Li Lecheng noted warm and friendly ties between the two countries. In his opinion, it is important to achieve goals, charted by the leaders of Russia and China in the sphere of practical interaction between regions. The Governor of China’s Liaoning Province said that China prioritised this issue. Li Lecheng advanced proposals on expanding interregional ties still further.

Other attendees included Andrey Denisov, First Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, representative of the Saratov Region’s executive branch and Head of the Federation Council’s Group for Cooperation with China’s National People’s Congress, and Lyudmila Skakovskaya, Deputy Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Science, Education and Culture, representative of the Tver Region’s executive branch and member of the Federation Council’s Group for Cooperation with China’s National People’s Congress.

The Russian senators provided a detailed account of the economic, trade and tourism potential of the Russian regions that they represent in the Federation Council.
